So who can afford a DJ in my area?

    Thread Starter: bcoffee

This is just a little calculating that I have done based on an article this year in a local paper. The article states that Philadelphia has lost a large chunk of it's middle class base over the last 50 years. Many of those people have moved to the suburbs. Many of the others now find themselves in...

DJ At Risk Getting Sued for Refusing LBGT Event?

    Thread Starter: DJ Randy L

I've read a news article that ordained ministers are getting sued or may go to jail for refusing to marry a Gay couple. If this is true and the courts find in the favor of the Gay couple, what does that mean for DJs that refuse services for LGBT events? I ask since we are servicing the same market...

Abuse of friendship with a DJ?

    Thread Starter: bcoffee

Guys, I have to tell you that lately that some of my friends that know that I DJ have become real slimeballs! I had one call me this week for his daughters bday party. I call him back and I tell him that my normal rate is $600 which puts me in the middle of the pack for what DJs charge. Due to our...

So what is a professional DJ rate?

    Thread Starter: djmachoman

I've been hearing this terminology being used quick a bit on here. There seems to be a lot of controversy as to what that is. My take is this. First what makes one a professional. That is someone that gets paid for goods or services they provide. That doesn't tell how good or bad they are....

Surge of Friend DJs (now the Ipod is losing out)

    Thread Starter: rockingdj

After talking by phone or meeting in person, the ones that don't book us (due to price I'm sure) usually say they found out one of their friends is a DJ or a friend of a family member is a DJ and they are going with them. Most likely because it's free or super cheap. ((Well, why in the heck did you...

Back to a daytime job for me.

    Thread Starter: nrgdjs

In spite of increasing advertising, spending thousands on new lighting, and technology and having performed at many gigs which were successful, and by successful I mean that 90 % of the crowd was still at the event at the end, and gave a round of applause after the last song was played. I also...

    Pssst......The Password Is __________

    Thread Starter: djshawn

I was supposed to have tonight off, but instead I got all call to spin at a new club that I just couldn't pass up.................Basically it was for a 70's Soul themed "Speak Easy" in upscale Winter Park, where you had to have a special code to get in the club. In fact you had to punch in the...

Out with the old, in with the new!

    Thread Starter: YourDJBuddy

After long debating whether or not I would upgrade my controller and primary source equipment, I decided to move forward a couple weeks ago. I didn't have the new gear ready to go yet, so tonight was the final "hurrah" for my old trusty rack. Having started as a mobile DJ, the vast majority...

Woohoo! FCC has pushed out 600 MHz auction to 2016

    Thread Starter: sawdust123

Good news to all that have mics in the 600 MHz frequency band. The FCC has delayed the auction of that spectrum to 2016 at the earliest. That means we can relax a little longer before worrying about replacing those mics.

So why work for a multi op

    Thread Starter: bcoffee

Over the last few years no less than 5 multi ops have asked me to apply to work for them. Three of them seem to simply find gigs for the DJ under their name and then send the DJ off to the gig. They handle the booking and billing. They also survey the customers to see how the DJ did. The DJ got a...
