    Open letter to DJGlobal

    Global --

This falls pretty squarely into the, "Be careful what you wish for, because you might get it" category...

Namely, you clearly wanted, and have received, lots of attention on DJChat this summer. You are inquisitive, intelligent, brash, confident, demanding, frequently oversensitive, seem to learn fast, have unusually strong opinions about all manner of things for a recently-turned 15 year old, and love to mix it up with people who make you feel threatened.

In short, you have--through your own untiring efforts--managed to capture the interest of a number of us "oldsters" around here. So I am going to repeat a thrice-asked question that you have thus far been uncharacteristically reticent to answer.

Your success thus far in life has been because you have been allowed the freedom to do so, Global. Freedom afforded by a society whose beginnings were blood-soaked, and which has of necessity been "refreshed periodically with the blood of patriots" ever since. It is the nature of the beast.

So, being the age you are, and the collective attention of this board having been captured, I ask you again: What are your plans, Global? You have grown up with certain expectations and (perhaps) a feeling of entitlement to reap the rewards that our free society affords, but as you discovered in the last couple of weeks, it is a society that is NOT necessarily guaranteed to survive. And when it is threatened, young men who are willing to fight for that survival are needed. (Young men simply because they are any society's best fighters... being in that age group when the s**t hits the fan is simply luck.)

I guarantee that the recently declared war will get much broader, meaner, and more expensive quite soon, and will still be very much "on" when you reach the age of consent. So assuming it is, what are your plans regarding it, Global? It seems to me that there are only two possible answers -- helping out, or letting others do it while you stand back and let them do their share and yours too.

Whichever way you answer, please provide something of the thought process behind your arriving at it. Bright, open, aggressive, brashly confident, and etc. 15-year-olds who are not only willing but (usually) eager to engage with men their father's age in the arena of ideas are very hard to come by.

In short, OK, you got our attention, Interesting Young Man... Let's see what you are made of now that you have, and a *war* popped up in the middle of your campaign to be noticed, challenged, and accepted by a group of adults.

All right guys, you have called me out to the street, so now I'll come out and have a chat.

I have no idea where I am in the no pressure thread, so I'm just going to move to this one. I'll be talking with the same people anyway...

Max you ask what my plans are now that clear events are unfolding in my very near future. You ask what I will do to lay it down for my country. You ask if I will play the game, or ride the bench.

Let me tell you this, I am not planning on sitting around. Additionally, however, I'm also not planning on running off to fight in the Army. But, I can help.

I will look to assist in any way, but let me tell you, I'm not jumping for joy to suit up and start lobbing grenades.

Here on the boards, most all of you have treated me as an adult, because that is what I commanded of you. But when it comes to situations like this, I just don't know what to do or think. I don't know, Max. Confused? Yes. Terrified? Definitely. Sit around? Definitely not.

I ask you, however, how does going to war have anything to do with DJing? So if I go off and join the war you'll respect me more as a DJ? That doesn't seem to make sense. Sure, I demand respect and usually get it from the others here on the boards, but what, you're sick of me so you want me to go die? This is DJChat, people, not IntegrityChat or FindOutWhat'sWrongWithYouChat. You're just trying to find some kind of a hole to spear me through. You're all trying to shoot me down!! This isn't about anything anymore, not even our country's situation. That may be the front, but it's not about ANYTHING except YOU and "let's see where Global's weak spot is so we can hurt him as much as possible and make him leave."

I'm here guys, and I can do whatever I want so long as I don't violate DJChat policies, and I'm not. I may be new and fresh here, but that doesn't mean I don't know anything. You've seen that in the posts. You say "you don't know everything, Global" and I've agreed with you every time you've said it, but what gets me is that you say I don't know ANYTHING!! This could not be more wrong.

So don't compare me to anything except myself. It's what I'd do for you. If you're going to try to shoot me, do it with DJ'ing and not whether I'm going to join the frickin' war or not. It's just pointless.
    I am Global.

Commanded? You commanded of us? Does your ego know no limits?

Get off your high horse Renken. You're a 15 year old punk. In 3 years, you'll be an 18 year old punk.

It's all in the attitude and you, Renken, have plenty to go around. There are teenage DJ's on this board who are worthy of respect, however you are not one of them. Either grow the hell up or seek a career as a professional strawberry picker.

Did you hear that Renken? I commanded you.

Oh, and Renken? Your "weak spot" is that hole in the front of your face, the one right below your nose and right above your chin. Every time you open that hole and emit some ozone-depleting spew, and post it on this board, you serve only to prove the points mentioned above.

John, you are always BUSTING in on my calm posting action!! I have PLENTY of respect around here and you, max, and dan are idiotically messing up this entire community. No doubt I'm the only case! I come on here and find an organized, tranquil enviroment except for YOU who is just around for the ride and to make sure people don't succeed.

Hmmm... it looks as though when on shaky ground, your best "defense" is to merely attack the premise and justification of the questioner.

My initial post was quite clear that this interest in you as a person, as opposed to simply DJ knowledge and skills, is because YOU are the one who kept raising all the maturity & etc. issues in your DEFENSE when the going got rough for you earlier regarding DJ matters.

It's one of those "you can't have it both ways," sort of things, Global. You insist you're a man--or at least a borderline one so far beyond his years that you should be treated like one--but then bridle with indignation that when treated that way in a situation you hadn't anticipated. Things like wars are what men concern themselves with, I assure you.

Well, I'm satisfied by your response, Global. Meaning that I learned enough from it to make up my mind whether you truly are some sort of prodigy of maturity, or just a kid.

    Thanks for your rapid reply.

    Global-

Push comes to shove, you are arrogant and cocky in many of your posts. With time and age it becomes your right to be somewhat arrogant and cocky, but you have not served your time in real life or on DJChat to be doing so.

These guys aren't trying to bring you down, they're trying to make you adjust adequately to a world of clients that won't like how you come off.

I am arrogant and cocky in the posts that personally attack me, and rightfully so. Not when we're actually discussing something related to the industry. If you want, I can bring up threads that each of you guys hope no one reads again. But I've read them and I have them right here. John, gas station? Max, I have some stuff for you too. Dan, even you. You wan to talk cocky read some of them.

I am cocky in a world of DJs who are trying to push me aside. But I know how to handle a client, so don't go there.

First off everyone is on edge. I am sitting here wondering where good funny threads disappear to and why threads about equipment are left on the wrong board. That is for me to work out. As for teens on DJchat If the need is there I will give them their own board, but only ask if they do come to one of the other boards to ask questions no one and I mean no one is to tell them to get back on their own board. As long as the question is appropriate for the board it is placed on. The teen DJs must know they will be by themselves, except for a moderator that can and will delete threads and posts that get out of line, you could consider him your chaporone, or baby sitter, depending on the way you act.

    Just say the word.

    PS Global,
I have known your weak spot ever since you signed up here and told everyone you were only 15. We have no faxed record from your parents authorizing your participation in DJchat, which means you by-passed the COPPA registration, which means you have already violated DJchat policy which in accordance with Federal law has the COPPA feature turned on.

    Aks me what?

I know I am going to get some strange looks with this, but I don't see the point of this thread.

Max, John and others - I respect you all and I value your opinions, but who died and made you the master of Global's behaviour?

Global IS a little cocky, but that can often be considered a good thing. Confidence is essential in this business. Over confidence can be a downfall.

Global is just a kid. He knows that. He needs to learn from his own experiences and mistakes. Giving him a hard time like this probably won't help. I say this as a reformed (grown up) formerly over zealous teenager.

Max - what were you doing at Global's age? John - what about you? If someone had shoved the suggestions made in this post in your face at his age, would it have been worthwhile?

Woah, Woah, Woah, what's this about no record? What is needed to participate here? A birth certificate copy or something? Elaborate. I didn't know abou this stuff going on. Federal Law? It's just a chat board. Sid, tell me what I need to know.

Hey Global, I don't know you personally nor have I chatted w/ you here, but I just wanna tell you keep your head up. If DJing is what's truly in your heart, than go for it. Don't let anyone here bring you down man. I started at an early age of 13 & now I'm 27 I had many so called "older DJ's" tell me I didn't know what I was doing or that I wasn't gonna be a good DJ just because of my age. I just kept aiming for my goal. I was the one laughing at them when I became an on-air personality/mixxer for the #1 station in the city, & they came & asked me to "hook them up" w/ a job. Now those DJ's don't even exist, I don't even know where the heck they are at now!!!!

    Global,
You have been spared the touch of death with the COPPA thing. It turns out you are just over the age of parental consent.
